The goal of this project was to identify the best long-term maintenance solution through a risk-based approach for selected dewatering systems at FortisBC operated hydropower generation facilities. The tool was designed to identify optimal hybrid renewable energy system configurations based on site- specific information, constraints, and stakeholder priorities. The Life Cycle Management Laboratory partnered with FortisBC to conduct a risk-based assessment of the current dewatering system, and to identify and evaluate potential rehabilitation modes with a multi-criteria decision making perspective. The project was funded by a Mitacs Accelerate grant. At the conclusion of the project, recommendations were provided to the partner on the most suitable rehabilitation options for the facility, considering the factors of accessibility, longevity, cost, and risk. The developed rehabilitation scenario assessment framework can be used to evaluate the maintenance decisions in critical infrastructure.
